Brecken [e-pos beskerm] Park (N.Y.)--The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers will hold its annual in-person conferences during the Tucson Gem Shows in 2023, after a 3-year break. The 59th Ace It Winter Education Conference will be held at the Tucson Convention Center on Sunday, January 29 and Monday Jan 30. Richard Hughes, Lotus Gemology, will begin the first day with a presentation on "Jade, China's Gift to the World." He will review the major sources of Jade in the world, touch on its identification and explore the modern movement of contemporary Chinese Jade carving. Billie Hughes from Lotus Gemology, and Wim Vertriest of GIA will present "A Canary in the Ruby Mine": Low Temperature Heating Treatment Experiments in Burmese Ruby. The two presenters share the most recent information on their research into low temperature heat treatments. The attendees will also be able to view before and after photomicrographs as well as spectroscopy and fluorescence that are crucial in recognizing the treated material. The session will then be followed by a gem cutter Justin Prim presenting "Beauty and Value: The Power of Gem Cutting", which explores how the cutting affects the final color and value of the gemstone. Cigdem Lile, a mineralogist and expert in archaeogemology, will then speak on "The Interpretation and Evaluation of Gem Carvings." Independent jewelry appraiser and NAJA education chair Deborah Finleon, will then discuss "Communication Consulting and Contracting: Three Cs that can make or break an assignment."Here you will find related stories.The second day will start with the "State of the Industry--Post-COVID" by industry analyst Harold Dupuy from Stuller and follow with GIA's Aaron Palke presenting "Demantoid Garnet: Gemology, Origin, and Treatme.
